I have a 55g which has been set up for about 2 weeks now. Currently we have 3 dwarf sunset coral platies, 2 red tail dalmatian mollies, one oto catfish, and one african dwarf frog. Plant wise I have 3 cabomba plants (all doing well after only a week and beginning to bloom!), and 2 Anacharis. We are stocking fish slowly however I'm getting conflicting information on how many I should add at a time per week. Could someone please give me some info on how many I can add at a time?

Here is what my stocking plan is atm:

3 dwarf sunset coral platies
2 Balloon Belly Mollies
1 Oto cat fish
5 red tailed Dalmatian mollies
3 Creamsicle Mollies
3 Panda or spotted Cory Cat Fish
1 pink striped ramshorn snail
1 purple stripped ramshorn snail
1 blue ramshorn snail
1 Asolene spixi
3 Dwarf African Frogs

Plants:

3 cabomba
2 Anacharis
2 small low growing plants for the front of the tank

So my questions is am I over stocking? If not, approx how many inches of play do I have left (some of these fish I haven't been able to get a straight answer to what size they will grow to be)?
Also, does anyone have a good suggestion for a very short growing plant to put at the front of my tank? I would really like something that will stay right at the floor of the tank but I can deal with some height. Also needs to be fairly easy to care for as I am still learning about plants and how to properly care for them.

Thanks in advance for suggestions and opinions!

You won't be overstocking at all, but I would go with a few more ottos, they like to be in groups. I can not tell you how many more inches of fish you can put into that tank, this would be giving you bad advise. Always remember when your stocking your tank, less is more to your fish.

I would use java moss for your substrate cover, really easy to take care of and should cover most of the substrate quite quickly once you get tha hang of plants.

You should have done a fishless cycle and added as much fish out of your planned stocking list as you want. Your tank has not gone through the mitrogen cycle yet, so monitor amonia and nitrite and do water changes to keep them at zero. DO NOT add anymore fish for atleast a month, preferably a month and a half depending on how the levels are.

After this month to a month and half has gone by, I would add no more than one group of fish at a time each week, such as:

first: the rest of the mollies

second: cory cats

third: all the snails and the rest of the ottos

fourth: neons

fifth: the rest of the frogs

Thanks so much for the advice! I will get a few more ottos to keep them happy :) How many would you suggest? A group of 3 perhaps? Also I forgot to mention that the
Asolene spixi snail will be going in a 10 gallon and not the 55g.
One last question, I would be happy with all the fish I have listed but would really like/prefer a school of 10 neons but I figured that would over stock my tank which of course I do not want to do! But what is you opinion of having 10 VS 5 neons with the fish listed? Other than adding the extra neons there really isn't any other fish that I want to add to this tank but if the extra neons are going to over stock me then I will settle for 5 instead.
