Hey fellow fish people I have several aquariums including saltwater. I have an empty 18g eclipse tank I want to stock, bit really dont have anymore ideas so im turning to you for stocking ideas. What would you do? (It will have live plants)
what kind of stuff do you want, vaguely? you could have a nice school of some kind of small tetra or harlequin rasboras, and a trio of cory cats patrolling the bottom. you could set up a livebearer tank with some platies or guppies (though they'll breed like crazy in all likelihood). there's a ton of stuff you could do, it would help if you had an idea of what you didn't want at least...
Ive had probably almost every fish that your lfs will carry. Ive had fish for many years. I want something unusual or diffrent. Although I was thinking about the rasboras and the corys already, so you and I are on the same page. I trying to find a unique tetra that I dont see everyday.
you might be able to swing one african butterfly fish with a school of cory cats to clean up the bottom. that would rule out the rasboras or tetras, though, and you wouldn't be able to keep much else. BUT if you want something different, this might be an idea.
How about pencilfish? Pygmy cories? dwarf rasboras/exclamation point rasboras? Scarlet badis?
Oh I know, I know. Threadfin rainbowfish
EDIT: I'm not sure what the surface area of your tank is, but I personally would not put an African Butterfly in anything under a 29g. Because they dont utilize the depth of the tank, the only usable portion is the surface area....
you're right, leopardess. i've never kept them. what are the dimensions of the eclipse 18? usually the minimum recommended tank for these guys is 20g, so i suppose it depends on the dimensions. but they do only reach about 4" in size, so it might be workable if it had the surface all to itself. just an idea...i can't think of much else that's "odd" that can go in an 18g tank.
It was a good idea - they are some of the coolest fish I've seen. Mine is 5" though and still growing I still think a 20g is too small. Either way, that's just me
Besides, unless you want only bottom fish or mostly large fish - they're not a great idea simply because most schooling fish aren't an option - unless its on the menu.
