No, I dont have anything in there right now, its not to be set up 'till summer, so I dont think it will be a problem. I will have a quick cycle because I'm gonna squeeze some sponge juice onto the new sponge so I will have the benefitial bacteria.
Sounds like a plan. Do you have any ammonia (as you would for a fishless)? It's not a bad safety net, do your sponge squeezing and such, then add some ammonia (to bring the tank to 5ppm) and see what the tests look like 24hours later.
No, not likely. But they'd probably have what you're looking for at Walmart. You want to make sure that it's pure ammonia and not full of detergents. Give the bottle a shake, if the bubbles stay, it's not for you. Checking the ingredients helps too , it should just say ammonia, plus some chelates more than likely to stabilize the ammonia these are fine.
