I've given into MTS and am setting up a 20-Long in addition to the 40-long I've had. I'm eventually moving my school of 6 red phantom tetras into the 20. I want to add some corys. I also want another school for a bit of color contrast with the red phantoms. Black phantoms seem the rather obvious answer but I wondered what other suggestions ya'll might have?

Maybe some cardinal tetras?

What type of substrate? Fine/soft is the best bet for corys.

Cardinals would be an interesting thought. Years ago when I first started keeping fish I tried keeping cardinals on two separate occasions and all I seemed to be successful at was killing them. Granted I've learned much in the intervening years, but any suggestions for keeping them happy and healthy?

I haven't decided on the substrate. I was thinking of sand or small pebbly granules. I'll likely have it moderately planted.
