I'm still fairly new to this whole thing. My first tank was actually an adoption. Someone was moving and needed to part with the tank and fish. I've had the tank for over 1 year now, and I haven't added anything to it (though I lost a catifish a few months ago).
I am pretty sure the tank is understocked, so I think I would like to add a few fish (I would definitely like something that would clean up around the tank). And I am wondering what I should add and in what amounts.
Here is the current setup:
Tropical Freshwater
20 gallon
Not planted....yet...I'd like to convert to some easy, low light plants at some point.
2 Longfin Black Skirt Tetras
2 Tetras that I have yet to identify....they look kind of like the Pristella except without a red tail
3 Danios
What can I add? (I honestly have no idea)

i would add to the schools you already have. they like schooling in large numbers

i would add to the schools you already have. they like schooling in large numbers

I was guessing people would say that. As I read they liked to school, and that's what I would have done had I been the one to setup the tank. But how many should I add to each school? And is it possible to add a cory or some kind of snail or something to cleanup around the place? :)

Thanks for responding!

well if you follow the inch per gallon rule assuming those fish get to be about 2inch each idk if thats riht some may be smaller. i would add 2 more black skirt tetras and 1 more of the unidentified ones so the schools all have at least three

Cories like to be kept in schools too. They enjoy schools of 3 or more, and I would also add to your current schools.

Most schools consist of 5-6 or more. this makes the fish feel comfy and they will be more likely to exhibit their natural behavior.......JMO.

Honestly I think you've got too many schools going for a 20G -- I would personally get rid of the danios (just since they are so manic and active they tend to stress out other fish) and add to the 2 schools of tetras, and then go for 4 or so corys.

id dump the danios and that mystery tetra species.
stock up 5 more black skirts and try 5 nanas cory cats mabye? or you could add another school of tetras like neons or rummynoses or a dwarf gourami.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I think I have another tank I can put the danios in. So, I will add to the two schools of tetra and add some cories. Would 5 of each tetra and say 3-4 cories be too many fish?

lets see so
5 black skirts
5? tetras
4 cory's (you should get pygmy cories there the smallest)
it'l work i guess but i were id stock up just one species of tetra. much more natural looking
