Ok since I am in the middle of what is apparently a major catastrophe in my tank-hopefully all was caused by an overly aggressive dwarf gourami who is now gone...RIP. I am looking to set this tank up in a way which can give me years of enjoyment without so much 'tinkering' as i have been doing since I got the thing.
If requested I would try to provide an approximate log of what all I have been through for this tank but as an overview-at least 5 cory cats have been returned to petsmart dead and tonight I am looking at 1 more dead and another heavily wounded. The dead cory looks fine to the eye and the wounded one is looking much like many others that died-missing tail. Blamed it on the gourami since he jumps at the corys all the time.
Ill skip the chit chat and get to this. 10 gallon tank, using the regent 5-15 power filter and (bought new over the weekend for more filtration) a whisper 20-40. Fish dont seem bothered by the current.
Fish are CURRENTLY: 2 albino cory cats (1 of which might not make it long)
2 otto's
2 guppies, male and preggy female.
Planted tank
Water params 0,0,40ppm. Ph ~8 (I live in florida, nothin but limestone below me)
Not a huge fan of the guppies, the rest of the fish I adore but i would like something to fill the top part of the tank, I know of a home I can put the guppies at no questions asked.
Please throw some ideas for what would even be worth me looking at. My girlfriend loves chichlids but I dont know of any that would fit. I think I might be leaning toward a neon tetra school or something along those lines. I also love the way tiger barbs look but I guess they get too big.. Please dont hesitate to mention any number of interesting fish to look at, and even with different combinations of what I have (eg dont replace those dying cories, etc)
Sorry to make such a long post, but I really hope to get some answers out of this. I apparely made a lot of mistakes the first time I tried this (and am now feeling the consequences). I hate killing fish. I want to be a responsible pet owner!
