I need help. Trying to figure out a mystery. We've just moved our pond fish in for the winter...just a handful of goldfish. We recently bought a larger algae eater to put in our indoor tank with the goldfish. Yesterday, the algae eater came up missing! We searched the entire tank (not hard...the tank is not huge) and no algae eater anywhere. This is the second time something like this has happened. Last year one of our little goldfish up and disappeared with not sign. Have any of you experienced anything like this?
Depending on what type of algae eater, some are masters at hiding. It is not uncommon for my 9 inch royal pleco to dissapear for several days. try as I might I can't find him and then one day there he is.
The other question is have you checked inside the filter? pleco's have been known to swim in the output ramp on many HOB's.
And of course the big question is do you own a housecat?.

jsut for the sake of conversation and a similar experience....
i recently added an internal filter that is black. one day,i went to the tank and totally freaked out b/c i didn't see my fave black angel- ong fins and slightly more than quarter sized body! i am looking everwhere and suddenly it is right in front of me...from out of nowhere even. all i can say is it camouflaged stupendously against that filter, possibly facing forward as angels tend to "disappear" that way. i should change its name to some famous magician.
my question runs more along the line of 'how big is your goldfish?' and 'how big was the algae eater'
my mum had some smallish gold fish... and she decided to get a bristlenose like mine (i had one at teh time). that bristle nose last about 3 days... and then it disappeared for good... so she got another one... larger... about as long as the goldfish... he hid and survived probably 3 months in there... we didn't see him for 2 weeks and then he'd turn up etc... mum then moved the goldfish outside into a pond and the bristlenose is still in my tank i have a boy and a girl... and they had babies and.. and... the angel ate the babies
the end
hoped you liked my story
