I recently removed my oscar from a thirty gallon tank to a new 55 gallon tank, since the move which was very stressful for him he has a lot of brusied areas on his body although he has devolped a strange black color, it has spread into his fins. Could this be caused be stress

Although I'm not familiar w/ Oscars, I think the same principles of fish care apply here.

I would say to make sure all three sides of the tank are permanently covered w/ something dark (background, contact paper, etc).

Next, keep the lights off as much as possible for about a week or until he starts showing signs of improvement. It may help to completely darken the tank for the first day or so.

I would look to add some Sea Salt (aquarium salt) and maybe Melafix.

Some other things to consider .... Is the tank fully cycled??? Any traces of Ammonia, Nitrite???? High Nitrates???

My Albino Oscar developed some blackish-blue spots on him, and on his fins, but it is just coloring. If it is just coloring it is nothing to worry about.

Also, has your 55 been fully cycled. I would check your water conditions in the 55 to make sure their is no ammonia or nitrites (or high nitrates).
