So im trying to cycle my first tank and its going pretty slow,

when i add water i am treating with api stress coat,

is that a decent product for chlorine removal? will it affect my cycle?

I use it, have always used it and always liked it very much. but I got prime this week as I read where one capful does 50 gallons  thats awsome!

Ditto on the Prime for water changes. I do dose with Stress Coat when adding new fish though. I think the idea of Aloe Vera is valid.

About cycling the tank. If you can get some filter media (sponge) from an established tank and put it behind the filter media in your filter it will speed up your cycle. Don't clean it first. Also, gravel (in a nylon), ornaments, rocks, anything from an established tank will have beneficial bacteria on it and your tank will be cycled in no time. I swear by plants - live plants - throw in as many as you can.

i think my problem was that i was cleaning my filter during each water change, i stopped doing that and it seems my ammonia levels are finally starting to level out
