STUPID acrylic! OUCH!

How were you cutting it and what were you using to cut it? I have never done that...touch wood...

I hope it heals up soon! :) :)

I was using a cutting tool just for acrylic from Home Depot.... I was just stupid and didnt wear gloves when breaking it apart. The force from the snap shoved the corner of the acrylic into my hand.

thats a painful part of the learning process in our hobby. sorry, maybe get it checked out by a doctor.

Yea- I feel awesome having actually made my own lid! Taking photos of the tank prep. I cleaned the cut well, let it bleed out a bit and used peroxide. I'll watch for redness or signs of infection before I see a doc and spend all sorts of money. LOL.

i was cutting acrylic once and had the whole sheet (1/2") shatter in my hand. I had to go to the emergency room to get stitches, they wound up pulling about 16 slivers of acrylic out. look about 6 hours, and rendered my hands useless for about a week. did i mention i did that in finals week?? Now, i wear kevlar work gloves.

:eek3:

Makes me feel bad for crying over just one slice! That stuff is really sharp!!! I cant imagine it shattering in my hands! I'm not very handy at things anyways so I just had no idea what I was getting into.

I know now!

oh... still shuddering from the idea of it shattering. *shudder shudder*

Wow. I've use the score/snap method on acrylic once and nothing like that happened. I was planning to do some more, so I'm glad I saw this thread first! Every once in a while, we get to learn from someone else's misfortune. I'm sorry about your hand. I hope it heals up quickly and well. Thank you for the warning!
