I finally got around to Overdriveing my 24" NO Flourscent. The thing is, that I expected it to be brighter. I have taken a picture of one overdriven light sitting next to a non-overdriven one. Which do you think is brighter? They look the same to me!

The one on the Left is Non-OD, and the right is OD. The reason that there is one bulb that is not on, is I did this for a comparison. Both work, it just seems that the OD one is not any brighter.

Just thought of a stupid reason. The Non-OD has a full reflector, and the OD bulb has like half a reflector. Would this cause it?

your No and Im guessing a HO or VHO setup produce about the same lumens as each other. You'd need halide or very different degrees Kelvin to see a seroius difference in light intensity. This is just off the top of my head so dont take it to the bank.

Hmm, that is odd. I have had 2 of the 4 bulbs in my hood OD'd and the other 2 NO and I could see a difference in brightness (of two like bulbs). Are the bulbs the same bulbs? One isn't a 5000K and other 6500K, T12 vs. T8(doesn't look it)? The reflector would certainly help aim more light, but the bulb itself should be noticeably brighter. If one bulb is new and the other old(being OD) that could explain the lack of contrast.

Nope, both of the bulbs are brand spankin new. I continued on my project, and got the middle of my 48" light cut down to 24", and screwed the ends back on. It looks to be brighter now. I'm not sure why it didn't then, but I was also having a problem keeping the bulbs fired, because the end caps were moving on me. Couldv'e just been a loose connection. Also, the reflector is not very good right now, as the center piece is missing. I'm going to cut that to shape and paint the inside of the light with a chrome spray paint. The light is going to be mounted in a wood canopy, and there is going to be a glass top on the tank, so I'm not worried about moisture getting in the light, or the paint flaking off.

When I showed the semi-completed light to my dad, he wanted to know where I got the little shop light.......
