Never have seen Anubias in tubes, how exactly would that work? The Rhimozode (sp) has to be submerged. Yeap everyone makes mistakes, but there are some things that are just common sense, right? If it isn't submerged it isnt aquatic. RULE of thumb (in most cases) if it isnt in a tank for sell, I wouldnt touch it, unless it was one of them bulb packages. 20% of the plants that are in the tanks are ALSO not aquatic.
Mom and Pops (the ones around me) only sell the basic plants. Swords, java, and Vals.
THIS IS why it is very important to research plants (just like fish) before you purchase.
I agree for the most part with the sentiment that the onus is on the customer to be well informed, but you are trying to make some hard and fast distinctions where none exist. Most of the plants that we grow in aquaria are marginals, and the vast majority find themselves completely emersed or completely submerged at different times of year. Heck, even the majority of stem plants grown would actually prefer to grow above the water line. In reality, as far as the hobby goes, it is the fully aquatic plants that are in the minority. The petco by my job always has amazon swords and java fern in those tubes, so it's far from true that the tubes are all sentenced to death in a tank. Just as one is responsible for thorough research before purchasing a living thing, one is also responsible for doing some research before making broad proclamations or chewing people out. The more you THINK you KNOW, the less you probably do.
