Substrate and grass for clown loaches

Currently I have small size, smooth gravel as my substrate. I also have large area covered with plastic grass. Similar to what I've seen sold as betta grass. I plan on getting some clown loaches and was wondering if the plastic grass was unsuitable. It obviously isn't sharp, but it is somewhat "prickly" to the touch.

I wouldn't use plastic grass with scaleless fish like loaches. Food will settle by it & the fish may get hurt. It's just not worth the risk.
