Hi guys I got a few questions that I want to ask. I want to start a planted tank but I don't know where to begin, so I'll start off with some questions.

What kind of substrate combination/ratio works for you guys or what you guys suggest?

How will bottom dwellers do with a carpet plant like hair grass?

What are some of the plants that are easy to start out with?

Will my plants get bitten off by some species of fish?

Thats all I have for now.

Eco Complete or Flourite are good either alone or in combination with 1-3mm inert gravel. I have 40-50% Eco Complete and 50-60% 1-3mm natural gravel.

drsfosterandsmith.com does NOT charge the ridiculous shipping that other places do for either.

Java fern, anubias, and java moss are good starters as they require only low light.

Some bottom dwellers will hide in the hair grass while others may dig it up (not necessarily intentionally).

Yes, some fish will eat plants. Just ask about the particular fish before getting them.

Check out Rex's site for lots of great info.
