Does anyone know a place to buy just the suction cups for aquarium heater brackets? Mine no longer stay attached to the glass, so the heater is just floating freely in the tank. I'm sure the problem is just that the rubber is old, as opposed to algae on the glass etc., because when I buy a new heater, the suction cups work fine for a while, although the old ones did not. Thanks.

Dropping the suction cups in boiling water didn't work for me - they still come loose from the glass. Perhaps I should rephrase my question: is there anything wrong with letting a heater dangle in the water unattached to the sides? My only alternative is to get a non-submersible heater that attaches to the top of the aquarium -they're cheaper anyway.

mine hang, make sure theres not too much pressure on the cords and that its completely submerged.

I can't avoid the temptation of asking "How's it hanging?" Actually, letting the heater hang freely was only a problem when I was changing the water and the siphon kept bumping into the heater. But at UncaBret's suggestion, I went to PetCo and found some suction cups with brackets made by Lee's. Of course, they don't fit the heater properly - the heater slides down in the bracket until the top reaches the bracket - but at least it keeps the heater out of the way during water changes.
