Sudden Bala death

Well.... it is with sad news that coincidentally I just noticed that after my cat did her usual "try to get the fish routine" one of my sharks just banged itself very hard against the side of the tank and I am afraid he wont be able to shake this one off.

I am about to have a bala die... hes fighting it hard but if after another 10 minutes hes still hit, Im gonna have to euthanize.

The other sharks in the tank are trying their best to help the poor fellow tho.
 
Well hes looking ok now. Swimming a bit normal now. Well see in the morning. Shut off all the lights and left the tank alone reducing stress.

Perfect example on why Bala's can sometimes can just do things to kill themselves. I call it "Suicide By Tank".
 
Well my Bala made it overnight. Wow that was a bad hit, for sure I thought he was a goner. Was swimming belly up for a few minutes going into body spasms. He would also extend his mouth out all the way. Gotta say I have never seen that before.

Hard to watch but he would upright himself with the help of his other buddies after awhile and try to swim.

Luckily he did live. We'll see what happens today.
 
ive found balas fragile for the most part where stress is concerned. but once they grow up a bit they seam to mellow out. why anyone would call a bala "shark" when more closly a minnow? who know?
