Hi,

Can anyone suggest a centrepiece fish or fishes for a 26 Gallon (UK) tank please? I was going to put some clown loach in but have been advised to wait until i get my bigger tank after christmas (I was going to start them off in the smaller tank, then move them). I would like a nice mixture of lively and colourful community fish.

Thanks

Try a dwarf gourami of some sort, or a betta, as a centre piece fish with some harlequins perhaps....

A single angelfish would work, (or maybe a pair if you limit the other fish). If you buy them young, you could also keep a school of tetras, but like Pugwash said harlequins are great - maybe a large school of them (20 or so, maybe more) and then something for the lower region of the tank, maybe a few rams or cories.

My son and I have been looking at our books and on the internet and we agree we would like a Betta. Is it better to have one boy betta, or is it better to have a couple of lady bettas for better company? Sorry, came over all strange - but I'm better now...Oh no I've done it again

Anyway also like look of diamond tetras, rainbowfish, cichlids, zebra loach, platies, guppies and pretty much everything. Having great difficulty shortlisting. Would like as many different types as possible, but without kicking my son out to make room for the 20 or so tanks I'd need, I can't have it all (don't really think I should, he's only 12)

with the diamond tetras... they are really good fish, but you will find them at large chain stores with a price that compliments their name. i have had good luck finding reasonably priced ones at single owned, "mom and pop" style LFS's, and they are really good fish and are really good looking when they reach full size.

platies are very cool too and come in every single color you can think of, but the only downside to them is that a m/f pair will breed like they are the last species on the planet.
the same is with guppies except the are a little less hardy because they are so inbred to preserve strains.

i would go with either the diamond tetras or platies

Would I be able to get platies and diamond tetras along with a Betta, or would that be overstocking because of having to get 6 or so of each for them to shoal? Difficult to choose between the sparkle or the colour!
