Something is needed in our 4' S. American tank. It's got a blue acara, a shoal of bleeding hearts and some cats at the mo - and a few platies. Yeah, I know they're C. American but I liked 'em.

However, it feels like it needs something else eyecatching - a "gentle giant" is what Mrs Faramir said - but would a Festivum or Severum (which spring to mind) not get on with a male acara who's used to having the tank to himself territorially speaking? I want to keep it to S/C America, so no gouramis, please!

I also thought of beckfordi pencils - they looked good in the book but the ones in the shop were rather dull - do they colour up in people's experience, or is it a case of "never get ones that look like the ones in Baensch...."?

Thoughts please?

Sorry Faramir, my ignorance leaves me...type-less.:(

Perhaps some Angels and a Pleco,
a Keyhole Cichlid?
a Spotted Heastander?
some Hatchet Fish?
some Corydoras or Brochis?
Another type of Tetra? (neons, cardinals, rummynose, glowlights)

My suggestions ;) Hope I came up with something new!

A pair of gold severums would look nice - they're fairly gentle, the color would be eye-catching, and the body shape (combined with the color) may be different enough from the acara's that aggression is minimized. But of course, I'm speculating here - I have two severums with a nicaragua cichlid and some barbs. The nicaragua cichlid sometimes chases the smaller severum, but no damage is done. Good luck with whatever you choose!
