Anyone use lights from a company call SunPod?? They have PC or HQI lights. Dr. Foster and Smith carry them.

I haven't used them. I have only used Coralife Pro Series lights - both fixture and retrofit. In reading threads, there seems to be a good number of people that have them noted as part of their tank specs. I just haven't heard good/bad about them.

I have one over my 29g. Nice light. my only complaint is that it's either metal halide on or blue or white moon LCD that doesn't light up the tank much. Also, no actinic options to have the corals glow. I've though about somehow adding just a strip of PC actinic in a ghetto fashion for that purpose.

i have one on my tank. not a bad light for the price but you have to watch which bulbs you use because the ballast doesn't drive the lights very well.

With MH, can't you use a 14,000K or 20,000K bulb so as to negate the need for a separate actinic?

I have 150watts over my tank now. Was looking into the 250 watts. The one I am looking at does not have the "moon LCD", just 250watt bulbs.

How long have you had it??

PS--Does Actinic help corals grow?? Thought they where just there to help "put some blue" into tank from all the yellow lights. My smaller tank has PC bulbs when the actinic is off the tank is very yellow.

yes. on the down side the higher the kelvin the lower the par.

moonlights imo are useless anyway. actinics will help the color of the coral pop or flourece (sp?)

I've had it for probably close to 8 months? I can't remember when I bought it.

I don't know about anyone else, but true actinic is nothing like 20,000k bulbs . . . it's a different spectrum. The true actinic will have some corals glow. I have 20,000k on my 75g tank and nothing "pops" the way they do with actinic. It's just a general more blue light in the tank.

Just one random example.... http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+13822+16770&pcatid=16770
there is K and there's nm. nm is the actual actinic. There are bulbs that are blue, and I even have some CF where it says "true actinic" but they are really just 20,000k, not in the nm spectrum. Not sure if spectrum is the right word, but it's totally different in appearance.

what about super actinics?

I have one, and it is a pretty nice unit. I have the 150 sunpod over my 10 gallon. I also don't like how there aren't actinics on there, but I found someone who added a t5 on there pretty easily using the fasteners for the hanging wires so i will do that soon. Also, the ballast isn't external, so that is just extra heat int he light, but they do have a good fan system.
ANd the moonlights are awesome. Mine has 6 white and 6 blue in a 20" long unit and it makes the entire thing look great at night.
