Hi, i have my 2 fish in the qt for a little to treat a possible ich case. In the meantime, do I need to do anything extra for my corals. It seems as though they should be good on their own, I just wanted to get some feedback. Thanx
I'm still trying to get my dang nitrates down after messing up my substrate from pulling all my rocks out to get my fishies out.
I asked someone about this a while back and they basically said that the only thing they'd recommend is spot feeding phytoplankton. I haven't done it yet, but it's something to research and get you looking in the right direction.
I also turned my skimmer off at lunch today. Going to see how the corals react to that. Mine, like yours, are pretty much softies, and I hear they like a little food in the water.
Why did u turn off your skimmer, does it take away good stuff? Ive had my fish in the qqqt for about three days now treating with Rid-Ich. I cant even see the little white spot I saw on one of them which promted this whole scenario. I think Im gonna bag up the one who had the spot and float her in my main tank with better light, cuz my medication gives a cutoff date for stopping treatment after the white spot(s) are gone. Sorry for being off topic.
I dumped in a little iodine, so i turned off my skimmer so it wouldn't take it right back out of the water.
Plus, experimentation, really.
Since there's no fish in that tank, and feeding is going to be confined to a piece or two of prime reef to the shrimp and some frozen seafood for the anemone (thawed, of course), I'm going to watch the coral.
It's been my (small) experience that the corals really reflect water quality, so if they look better w/o the skimmer, I'm going to leave it off till I put fish in, and if they look better with the skimmer, I'll turn it back on.
Plus, in 3 weeks I'm in Alaska for a week and a half, so I'm trying to simplify as much as possible for my fishie-sitters...
Well of course they're going to look better without the skimmer, its taking their food out of the water. That's why people turn theirs off at feeding time.
I've heard a freshwater dip can work to get rid of the ich...BUT..I never tried it myself so I can't say for sure...also to give meds I've used an IV drip and ran it very slow.
