I've seen these on some newer Sunsun canisters and some no-name import HOBs. I just don't see how any sponge or floss media is going to capture and hang onto surface film.

So I added the skimmer. It works great. Just tweaked a few things.
I removed their small sponge and filter pad and added a coarse sponge.
I removed the spray bar as it made to much agitation.

the film and bubbles are gone.

But with the extra flow. Which I like because now I can see the co2 bubbles traveling further, I have a higher pH due to better gassing off.

I’m was 6.6 now I’m 6.8. Kh is 4.

I’m thinking of turning it up Is 30 ppm still the sweet spot?

also how often do you guys clean your diffuser? It’s clean where the bubbles are coming out but the rest has a bit of algae. Also the whole disc has never released bubbles. Just a small area, normal?

I plan on using peroxide tonight after it shuts off.

Video of the diffuser. Could I just use a syringe? I have excel could I use that?

does it need cleaning? I know it wouldn’t hurt.

Well can’t seem to load the video. I will figure it out. Have to grab someone from work
