Sweet custom tanks

The tanks are nice, but its too bad they are all fish only. No live coral anywhere.

wonder how much one of those would dent the bank account...

"Q. How much does an aquarium cost?
A. Discovery Collection models start at $12,900. The size and shape of a custom aquarium, the reef, and the surrounding material will contribute to the cost, which typically starts at about $25,000."

"Oh sure...no problem, just let me see if I have that with me in my wallet"

When talking about keeping a live reef, these tanks seem like they're not the best designed...they're all so deep relative to their size. You'd probably be able to heat your house with the lights you would need to penetrate.

the owners of these tanks probably have plenty of cash to cover the lighting and heat issue.

i doubt they care how well-designed they are as long as they look stylish.

purely my opinion.

i wonder if the owners of these tanks are the people who care for the fish, or if they hire people to do it.

Sweet tanks.
I doubt any of those homeowners care for those fish,i'm sure all of them have hired help to care for all of those tanks.

Ah, i suppose its both good and bad that they probably don't care for the fish themselves. If I had an amazing tank like some of the ones on that site, I would constantly be checking my fish and conditions. But, it looks like those homeowners are just looking for the pizazz of a big marine tank in their kitchen or living room and probably don't know how to adequately care for the animals, in which case the hired help would be the only thing keeping them alive.

I guess a thousand-gallon marine tank would be quite a job for one person, though.

I'm very familiar with one of the pictured tanks. I buy and trade corals with the guy that now maintains it. It was set up like that for photos only. The cheezy looking, fake coral and concrete LR was immediatly replaced with about a half a ton of real TBS LR!! I would bet that if you study the pictures you will probably see the same rocks in different tanks :)

As far as owners maintaining them, yes and no. Some are members of the local reef clubs and some know asbolutely NOTHING about them and only spend a limited amount of time at these homes. If you poke around RC and the Tampa Club area you will see some of them. Let me add, there are two within about 20 miles of me here in Lakeland that totally blow away ANY of the tanks pictured on that site...........YES!! in private homes ;)

I totally agree with that.. Imagine some of the rich getting their hands dirty??? I think not...

Too bad there weren't some Freshwater set-ups..!
Maybe it's not a good enough "status symbol" to have Freshwater..(?)
