Switching to Canister Info Needed

True..But there is a difference between value and what most people are willing to pay. As far as what is better I suppose it depend on ones measurement of what better is. I personally only go by design and quantifiable performance, durability and value.

Either way your bound to be better off with a canister over an HOB:thumbsup:
 
Sorry for not posting sooner but after reading allot on filters and ALLOT of help from Gunner I went with the MAG 350. It sounds like an over kill but it’s not. I toned it down a bit with the return valve. All I can say it’s awesome. I love that I can see it cleaning. Super quiet compared to the Emperor and I will save allot on money on the media. My water now is clear and no more bubbles.
I am really posting to thank Gunner with all the info on filters and tips for this filter.

Rod, your just saying that becasue you want my stack of Mag polishing Carts LOL (jest). Do you know that for the first time I have started using them in the Hot Mag 250's as an addition the way you do, and I must admit that after a few days of running the water is actually clearer then my original description of crystal-clear. Like you said invisible LOL.

So even though all my tanks are crystal with running either the FX5 or dual 350's with batten for polishing, Im going to dedicate the 250's on each tank for Cart only service. So far its been 2 weeks I have been running one on my 80 tank and it still running fast and hard. So in my case with my tanks already filtering clean looks like the 250 Carts will last awhile before they clog and just maintain that invisible water look. You were right about that LOL.
 
i have a fluval 305 if you are interested. Its much cheaper than a new one!

And yes, canister filters RULE! So much better than HOB types

I am glad the OP got what he was looking for with the 350. I have had both the 350 magnum and the HOT 250 and liked them both.

Word of advice for any users thinking about using the HOT magnum on small tanks. USE A PREFILTER. Below is a thread I started ages ago over on MFK after I found over 30 pleco fry still alive in the filter. Those filters are machines and really move water for their size. :thumbsup:
