I'm worried about "Mysty", my mystery snail. I've uploaded some pics for you to look at for reference. I think that for quite some time she has been unable to completely close up. I've seen her sort of sitting back with her foot curled downward at the edges, holding herself up off the gravel, which seemed strange, also.
Today, I took her out of the tank and put her in a clean rubbermaid dishpan with some nuked zuchinni, and flakes. She was on a plant in my tank when I got her out, and she closed up as much as she could when I touched her.
Looking at her, partially closed up, I realised that she must be swollen, since she couldn't close up completely.
(see pics)
I put her in the pan and after some time she opened up and started moving slowly. She never did eat. I made sure she stayed moist, and I had a gooseneck lamp on the pan, with a thermometer in it, keeping her at the temp of the tank.
My params are good. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5, ph 7, temp 80. Except for a recent spike the tank has been reading like that, other than ph dropping to around 6.8 or so just before water changes.
Last Saturday I had a reading of traces of ammonia and nitrite, had been putting too much food in - worrying about the snail, so I immediately did two water changes and a really good vacuum.
Everything has been good since then, and I plan to do a water change tomorrow, Sunday.
I've worried that my snail is not eating enough, but I did see her eat a pea (I was so excited about it that I posted another thread regarding that event in this forum), but she glides right over zuchinni and green beans. I have seen her eat the algae wafers.
I took the pics just before putting her back into the tank. I sat her down on the tree stump in my tank, and after a few minutes she opened and started cruising.
She has been up near the water line on the glass now in the same spot for about an hour.
About thirty minutes ago, as she was at the top of the tank, I hand fed her about five fat juicy blood worms. She did eat them readily, but she wasn't interested in a sixth.
I have been, since Monday evening, using an organic ich treatment from Novalek, the company that makes Kordon NovAqua, Amquel, Amquel plus, and "Ich Attack", the organic ich treatment. I have had the temp cranked up to 80 degrees F to speed up the cycle.
My guppy has a nodule/cyst/speck on it's fin, and it seemed like this might be ich. I guess it was last weekend that I found the spot, went on the AC to get help.
Several forum members helped me, looked at pics of my guppy, and we all came to that conclusion, (I will attach the pic of the guppy), but after more than a week since the apperance of the cyst there have been no more specks appear. All the other inhabitants are unaffected. I have a brochis and 2 otos, in addition to the inverts; snail and 5 ghost shrimp.
This morning I spoke to the research marine biologist at Novalek/Kordon, a Dr. Rofen, who said that "Ich Attack" is safe for invertebrates, and its use, in fact, can be indicated for some snail issues. It is a combination of herbs containing napthoquinone, which is the active ingredient. I have also been using Melafix, which the biologist said would be compatable and could help with any bacterial issue.
I spoke with him at length; describing the speck; the chronology of its appearance and the lack of appearance of more specks; the condition of the other occupants. He's thinking that it doesn't sound like ich, but may be bacterial or viral.
The snail health concerns preceded the ich treatment and I don't think this is the problem, but I'm not sure of anything.
Please tell me what you think her health issues may be.
 She does have some shell deterioration from lack of calcium and soft water, but Jinksy thinks it is not too bad, yet, and gave me some tips on increasing her calcium. She's also sending me some samples of snail food from Kensfish.
Thanks for your help.:wall::help2:
