please could someone advise as to what disease my dwarf gourami could have? I have noticed that it has started swelling over its stomach area only on the left hand side.It looks as though it has swallowed a marble.otherwise it is looking fine, eating well and swimming normally.About 3 months ago another dwarf that I had bought developed the same and died as the growth got bigger.
Any advice would be appreciated.

It could possibly be some sort of bladder disease, or maybe even a Bacterial infection (which is quite contagious).

Sounds kinda like an intestinal blockage. My Angel had the same thing. Swollen belly, and kept on eating. I didn't think much of it(didn't know what I was doing then), and about a week or so later, the poor angel couldn't swim. later found out that the blockage will look like a swollen belly, and can do permanent damage to internal organs. A varied diet helps. Try feeding different foods. Peas usually help with a blockage. Peas to a fish are kinda like exlax to us.....

I agree, peas will help. Make sure you take the skin off!

Magnesium sulphate (epsom salts) also help with constipation - you could try adding 1/2 tsp per gallon (dissolve first) of water; between that and the peas the fish should produce a lot of waste. I'd also recommend that you stop feeding (with the exception of shelled peas) until the fish returns to normal - the last thing it needs is more food compounding the problem.
