aww they're so cute, Congrats on the fry! My swordtails don't want to breed, so I'm thinking maybe I'll get a couple more females, there 1 female and 1 male.
mine have always been colored on birth...and when they first pop out..they are 80% eyes and just soooooooooooooo adorable! They should make stuff animals that look like newborn swords...would make a $ million!
Weird all my swordtail fry start out white and dont develop colour until about 2 weeks of age. Also it seems like your fry live around the bottom of the tank ? Mine never stray more then 1 inch from the surface.
I'm not sure about the guppies, but these guys were all transparent up until the day we took these pictures. They have since grown more colorful too. It will be interesting to see how they turn out. I have two males, one is orange and the other is of a neon variety, kind of like this one: http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/other/xipho_helleri_neon.JPG. In a few days I'll see if I can get some more shots of the babies, they are starting to come out of hiding now and I've seen as many as 4 at the same time, but I have a feeling there are more then I have seen. Only time will tell.
I have seen them in both places. I have some plants that have grown to the top of the tank and I find them hiding in the folds of the leaves up there. But I have seen them more recently blending in with the gravel. Maybe it's just a matter of the coloration of the bottom of the tank, they may stick out against the gravel you have, where as this stuff seems to hide them really well in plain sight. I swear some of the pictures that we took were like "Where's Waldo?"
