So it looks like I may be getting two full red swordtails today from a local fish keeper who is moving and he said there is one male and one female. I would be interested in breeding these guys and I would like to know what the minimum tank size is for breeding.

Also any tips on breeding would be appreciated as well.

That just does not sound right. :evil_lol:

But to answer uour question---IMO swordtails need at least a 20gal tank, they do grow "fairly" big. Also with most live-bearers it is always better to have about 2 females for every male. Finally--Just leave them alone--they will breed and produce babies just fine.

I agree with tanker get more females than males. Also maybe get a plant or something so the fry can hide. I just leave mine alone and they breed than I either find them in the gravel or in the plants hiding. Than I just put the babies in the breeder net and feed them Hikari First Bites they seem to love that stuff. Just my 2 cents.
