I have a swordtail that jumped overboard and fell on hard concrete. When I discovered him, he wasalready dry and not moving. I put him back in the water and sure enough, he was swimming after a few seconds. He was not swimming normally for several hours but was eventually ok. However, He must have broken his tail during the fall as the sword bit fell off in a couple of days.

Now he is fine and healthy but I am wondering if the sword will grow back with time?

Use melafix...Should help out, otherwise if you want to depend on the fish's own nature to recover itself

It'll grow back, but whether it'll be as nice as it was is debatable. As Neonflux said, melafix and clean water will do wonders for your fish's healing.

It should grow back. It is quite amazing how resilient these fish can be sometimes.

My swordtail just lost his sword about a week ago and it is already starting to grow back. I'm not sure if it will be as nice as before, but I'm gonna wait and see!

Yes I used Melafix and the fish has recovered fully. I guess I just have to wait and see how fast the tail grows back.
