My one friend has a 20 gallon tank with 3 small goldfish and a male swordtail. I didn't know they could live in the same tank together  . Anyway he's wondering if they could interbreed, and I wasn't sure. When I saw the tank the male swordtail looked liked it was trying to mate with one of the goldfish. So is it possible they could breed?

He will try to breed with gold fish but nothing will happen. But I recommend moving the fish. the gold fish has different requirements than the Tropicals. the outcome is never a good thing.

Lol, a swordtail trying to breed with a goldfish. :) They won't have any babies though, since they are entirely different species or types of fish.

A goldfish is a 12" long coldwater carp. A swordtail is a 4" tropical livebearer. No they cannot interbreed. They can live together but goldfish like a non heated tank and need 20-30 gallons per goldfish. They will remain stunted in a small tank and the ammonia levels are usually high in a goldfish tank.
