Wzup!! Does anyone have any hints on how to get my synspilum to breed. I know that they are oposite sex but the male just keep running her around the tank.

The trick with synspilum is getting them to pair up..after that, they are pretty easy to breed..and aggressive! If you can get a few more females, it will be easier....good luck!

I also agree with the above. The best way to do it is to get a few males and females at a young age. Let them grow for a bit and they will begin to pair off. You then keep the ones that pair off and put the others into a different tank. Once this is done they will pretty much spawn all the time. You won't be able to put a male and female in a tank and hope for the best. Alot of Cichlids are like this and most people don't know it.

As for your problm most likely the male is not interested in the female and only time will tell if that will change or not. I would say to be ready to take the female out if the male doesn't change or as stated above get a few more females or he may end up killing her.

Adding some kind of a dither fish like Metynsis or large Silver Barbs in conjunction with frequent water changes will help. Also try bumping your temperature up 5-10 degrees after a big water change. I have had a lot of sucess by seperating the male and female with a good divider. Sometimes being told "no" is the best thing to get them to say "yes".

I will try to separate them for a few days. The strangest thing is that the female is bigger than the male. The male dont actually bite he, he just chase her around. At times the female tries to defend herself but nothing happens. What size do they mature cause the female is 5' and the male is about 4'.

They are sexually mature, Male @8-9"...female a bit smaller. They can attain a size of about 14" Good possibility they will breed smaller, but is generally unsuccesful.
