Hey all. Been a while since I last posted. I have been successfully breeding demasoni for a few months now. Just thought I show you though... the third batch I had (from a very small mother) was 10 babies and 7 of them were born with no tails. They did just fine swimming from release on. I did not strip them. Right now I have them in a 10 with 2 yellow lab fry. They are about 2 months old. I will post some pics. My wife really wants to raise them, so we are going to keep them. It may prove to be an interesting biology experiment to see what their fry look like (if they ever breed). I won't encourage it though. They seem to like their yellow lab buddies. Gimme your thoughts.

I probably would not have kept them around, but that's your personal choice. For as long as they're not in any discomfort or under a disability in e.g. feeding etc. I'd say you're entitled to do what you are doing with them...but medium to long term I would cull as I can't see the point in keeping them going.

edit - sorry did not realise you were considering deliberately breeding then. I would definitely not do this, even if you are sure you're not going to let them out of your tank.

a lot of fish are being bred for defects. arowana and parrot fish to name a few. i feel bad for them but see no reason to kill them if it doesnt bother you. just dont distribute them to ppl who plan to use them as breeders.

I say do what you want to do, keep them, breed them...just don't let them out of your sight. It's not like they will miraculously end up in the general population...just don't give them away for others to mess with.

that is crazy i would like to have some not for breeding but because most interesting looking ive never seen a fish like that
