in fish or cichilds. Well in fish about 2 years. my first fish was a betta. man i thought those things were mean. I was wrong.
Well the h. frempongi are pretty rare and you cant really import them here. Even I cant find anything on them. What petstore do you work at.

by the way I added you to myspace my name is O.C.

i have to agree with whomever said it looked pretty tame for a cichlid confrontation. wonder if there are (or soon to be) any eggs over in that right corner? Maybe something going on in the left side of the tank. Afterall it looked like every fish in the tank was to the right.

I have seen many experienced fishkeepers suggest 3-5 Severums for a 75. I won't. but that does not make me better or right. I mean I am a basic dummy that keeps 2 angels, a school of neon/cardinal tetras, a few rams, and some small loaches (6 sidthimunkis and a couple of wee clowns) in a 75 and thinks of it as overcrowded). oh, there are some otos (except I think the angels have been eating them) and bristlenoses working to keep the plants clean.

I won't talk about my 225 right now. It is a little crowded. More than anything it has two species (satanoperca jurupari and geophagus brasiliensis) that just don't seem to get along.

in case you have not yet watched the video--it is incredibly tame for a cichlid confrontation. Heck have you ever seen the mating dance of severums? When they do the fishy fandango it is much more violent than the video. and severums are "gentle". Cichlids get nasty when they are doing the nasty--or protecting territory -- especially during spawning process and when defending free swimmers. wonder if there are (or soon to be) eggs over in that right corner--maybe already there to the left. It seems like pairs working together. i just don't have the time to rewatch the video for a third time.

Gotta love clown loaches. i bet they were playing sheriff. or these guys, like mine, just like to get in the middle of things to see who they can stick. Maybe even have some caviar.

Why rocks in the tank to hide behind? might more grasses/durable plants and wood work better given the species and the mutants the video was displaying?

Wait, wait wait, did i say "mutants". was some one keeping "mutant" fish in a tank? a hobbyist purchased mutant fish? a hobbyist helped support a commercial entity playing god for profit and it was not railed about? my oh my how things slip or go unnoticed. and it was an excellent opportunity for a diatribe.

definitely a black ghost knife in there. My guess is it is a 125 gallon tank. If that is the case the tank is too small--regardless of other fish population--for the bgk. that thing will hit the 22-24" mark in the proper tank. with the appropriate diet. Only took me about 2.5 years to get mine to 18". So please do not tell me it is ok to house them in small tanks because they are "slow growers".

And my golly the bgk will not really enjoy his company in that tank--ever see a bgk attack big cichlids--goes right for the gill membranes. or they just open that incredibly long jaw and try to take nice bites. Mine actually tried to take a head on bite out of my gymnogeophagus gymnogenys "brazil" (see avatar). dang thing just stuck his entire head into the bgk's mouth until the bgk yelled "uncle and hurried away to his hiding spot.

Doubt if the water turns per hour in that tank creates the current that the bgk enjoys either. I hooked up a 2nd pump in my tank for the bgk (even have it running still even though the bgk has been rehomed) that pushed 1600 gph (the primary pump does about 1200 gph). the bgk loved it. would swim in the current all the time.

those clowns in the video are small guys. Hopefully they can make it to size (they get well over a foot in length, they are a schooling fish). amazing the condemnation of content and conditions did not carry over to that species as well.

A controversial video--you bet ya. because of the casual contact between cichlids? hardly. so much more to get riled up about if you want.

looks like some kid was enjoying his fish to me. showing all his buds how "tough" fish can be--lol. if only he knew. looks like a case of a teenage hormone with camera and basic editing software.

managuay86dont worry he thinks he is the best fish keeper and basically complains about every little thing he can think of. anyway You have very nice fish Gian krlo[/QUOTE said:
I never said I am the best fishkeeper, and the only thing I am advocating against is animal abuse. But I guess everyone is entitled to thier oppinions. Mine is: people who mistreat animals need to have thier faces bashed in. Yours is: animals have no value outside of using them for your enjoyment, and are actually more enjoyable if you watch them suffer.

Yea but we dont do that.

please, guys, CALM DOWN!!!! I don't want this evolving into another pointless debate about morals. something interesting happend in his tank that he most likely did not intentionally instigate and since they weren't realy hurting each other, he deceided to show it to all of us as a larf. there are better ways to spend one's time! like, for example, helping people who need help at this website and not harassing people trying to boost this sites low morale.
