taking water to FS how to transport?

How do you transport water to the LFS to get tested? In a zip lock bag??? I do not want it to get contaminated??? thanks

I normally just use a clean jar or piece of tupperware. A ziplock bag would work fine as well.

Even a clean soda bottle.They don't need much for a test.

shorter is easier on them though. i've seen people bring water in cups with seran wrap on top, glass jars, pill bottles, zip loc bags, baby food jars (those work really well actually). as long as you clean it out really well you should be good

on the subject its best to get your own test kits. api master kit is really good.

I should have done that when I brought two Bolivian Rams back to the LFS, the bag leaked all over by back seat and on my pants.:irked: It was leaking all the way to the tanks in the back of the store. Won't do that again!

I ditto having your own test kit, but if you don't, I guess it is best to take advantage of what is available. Not sure I would trust the reliability of the person performing the test or if they were using dip strips.

I have seen to many of the LFS folks claim your water is good for adding fish with zero readings on am/ni/na and the water just came out of the tap....

You could have LFS test it but make sure they are using API drops NOT dipsticks. Watch them do the tests. Toss the dipsticks they are a waste of money and time reading them they are not accurate. Do your own reading with the liquid tests to see if LFS is getting the same readings. Ammonia should be 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate should show anywhere between 5-40 it should not go above 40. Ziplock bag is good or clean plastic container.

I use a small tupperware type bottle that has a screw on lid ( .97 cents at Walmart) ... Only time I have ever had to take water to test to my LFS is when I have bought new fish and have had a few die off ....The LFS I normally use has a 2 week guarantee on fish so if I have one die I have to bring the dead fish in along with a water sample to get a replacement.....

The bottle also doubles as a frozen bloodworm feeder...I put alittle tank water in it and then add my frozen bloodworms in to thaw out before feeding them.
