My new yo-yo loach(I know, i know, they have to be in a school, I will get more when the place has more) is hiding behind my powerhead in the back of the tank. He seems to be doing fine and everything looks good. He calmed down sinse yesterday when all he did was go up and down along the front of the tank. I hope he starts feasting on the snails soon. I made a nice snail trap for him. All i did was put in a few pieces of zucchini in for the plecos and the snail are all over the piece that is on the sand.

Give him a couple of coconut shells to lurk in. When you see his whiskers sticking through the nailhole you drained the coconut with, you'll fall off your chair!

Thats something to think about, but where in ny were you able to find a coconut?

The streets are practically littered with 'em. They're in every last corner of every last borough!

For practicality though, I'd try the produce aisle at the supermarket.

I built a little series of rocky caves for my loaches. Coconuts seem to be a popular favorite. You could always get a few of those fake caves they sell in the LFSes.

The actual details aren't especially as critical as the actual existence of a couple of little shelters. My experience with my loaches has been that they can be a bit shy until they have their bearings and then they become more active. They wander around quite a bit when they're able to zip under something in a pinch (more hideouts=less hiding).

Mine interact with each other quite a bit and they are social fish, so a few more when you get the opportunity may make the one more comfortable in your tank.

I'm guessing that you still cut it in half and then put them in the tank. I really think that is a good idea. Next time I go to my grocery store, I will look for them.

The best coconuts come from grocery stores with awnings that read Productos Tropicales.

Here on the Upper West Side, our coconuts arrive in the grocery with a neat little score line sawn around them, for us tidy but hopeless gringos! But a nice jagged edge would make for smaller entrances. Loaches like a narrow entryway.

A knife with a flexible blade helps when you're prying the coconut meat off the shell. I actually prefer canned sweetened shredded coconut to the real thing. It's like preferring canned peas...

so wetman, are you sayting that the cans from the sweetened shredded coconut can also make a good hiding place for the loach
