i herd that figure 8 puffers can get tame and come up 2 the side of the tank when they see u. is this true and how long do you have to keep the before this can happen
Chhers Ben

They will eventually recognize you and react accordingly, although mostly it will be because you are the one that feeds them and they may think they are about to get fed.

Spend time in front of your tank (as I'm sure you do) and eventually they will come around, it's hard to say how long.

Mine took a week or so to get more familiar with their new surroundings. Now they shoot out to the front of the tank whenever anybody goes near it. Not too sure that they recognise 'me' yet! I think its probably truer to say they see a large potential source of food (i.e. me) and come out to beg!

I've had them a couple of months now and they will eat mussel, shrimp, cockle etc from my hand (which I find is an easier way of controlling the amount of food that gets spread around the tank by their terrible table manners :D

Also a tip that works well is to feed them frozen bloodworm through a pipette - you can just put enough in at a time that they will eat it all without having to get all the uneaten food out afterwards.

Of course you still need to make sure there is no food left over in the tank.

Did you buy any Figure 8s yet? If so how are they doing...

Cheers,
Ade.

Yep:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
i have called him Moose. i dont no if i should get 1 more because he spends some time going up and down the side of the tank. i have lots of plants in and 2 new bit of bog wood so he doesnt do it that much. i have given him snails (ramshorns) and he loves them but i dont give him that many. he loves small worms and the bloodworms. i will try the blood worm in the pipette tonight.
Cheers Ben

I can't remember what size tank you have, but (and I'm sure others on here will give you more knowlegeable advice) I think more than 1 is only a good idea in a tank > 40 (imperial) gallons.

I made a mistake and bought 2, their tank is too small even though they are only 1.25" each. The tank is 24x15x12. They are ok at the moment but I need to rehouse them ASAP.

I would keep the one you've got and learn how to look after him / her as best you can.

The 'going up and down the side of the tank' thing is more to do with a lack of space / territory I think (think of a tiger in a cage) so adding more won't help.

i think my figure 8 recognize me as a feeder :P he like to play in the back of the tank, but when i get real close to the tank, he always swims to the front and near the surface.

Trying to get my Green spotted to do the same.. but he seems only eat food off the Gravel.. like when i feel them frozen bloodworm.. my Figure 8 is all over it while they are slowly sinking.. but my Green spotted just swims around it but never eat them, until the worms hit the Gravel, then he are searching for Food all over gravels

i had a green spot puffer and he seemed pretty smart. when i was at the tank hed come over and look at me, he knew when he got fed, also he like to take mealy worms out of my fingers he wouldnt eat them any other way and shrimp pellets also
