Tank mate for a Tiger Shovel Nose Catfish

Hmmm. I know nothing about arowanas, but I have a shovelnose, and he shares the tank with a pleco and a good sized synodontis eupterus. What do you feed your SN?

How big does a TSN get?

Aren't they rather slender? And an RTC is a big fat body that will eat anything in its path? Although at one time, I owned both fish (RIP Sparky, the RTC, 3.5#, 21" long) I never would have considered putting the shovelnose with her. I don't even trust my marbled pim anymore. There's a link for that - let me go find it.

Found it - complete with picture

He now has his own tank, and his former mates are QUITE happy!

The largest TSN that I have seen in a private aquarium was over 36". It was housed in a 8' X 4' X 4' tank (by itself).

The one I have is a Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum.

But yeah, I think a RTC would probably be meaner. Not sure if I would risk putting them in the same tank though. Even if the tank is a big one.

When you had yours, what was your tank size ?

At the John C. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago they have in a the "Fishes of the World" tank the largest one easily over 1000+ gallons 3 Pirarucu's,4 Green/Black???Pacus (Huge! there Width are very impressive), like 4 RTC's, and two TSN over 3 feet. Plus large Plecos, Geos, and Doradids.
