ok, in a tank with 4tinfoil barbs, rainbow shark, pictus catfish, upside down catfish, and 1 orange finned loach would a Blue Gularis do ok? The LFS recommended either a severum, blood parrot, or silver dollar. Thoughts?

Ok, in a tank with 5 bala sharks, and a random assortment of smaller fish including peaceful betta, would a hillstream loach be ok? All i have is mystery snail atm.

Ok, i a tall tank with female guppies, a peaceful betta, and 2 hoplos, what can i put in that would be different, stay in the middle, colorful, and peaceful for the most part? Some ideas: Splash tetra, black Ruby barb, ember barb (i know they would be in groups)? or maybe one large, non eating the guppies, colorful fish?

I thought sharks lived in a little place called the ocean. Its like wou are gonna have a great white whale in a tank or a jelly fish! :spam: :OT:

What size tanks are we talking about??

tinfoils, in a 55 (still only at 3in each)--will move to 125g within 6mos
Same for balas, not in same 125g but a seperate one

guppies and hoplos in 40g tall

Hill Stream Loaches are really cool but just a word of warning from personal experience. They do not thrive in a tropical tank set up. They really like cooler water (65-75 degrees) then most tropical fish like (especially a betta) and they really like a fairly strong current (which bettas don't like) with a high oxygen content. They can also be difficult to feed as they eat mostly algea and the tiny mirco-organisms that live in the algea. I could never get mine to eat algea tablets and I dont know if mine was a picky eater or not but I would make sure that you have a fairly established tank with enough algea for it to feed before adding it. But if you can provide the proper environment they are an awsome, very cool looking fish.

ok after more research i have decided that in the 40g tall for the mid portion, would a small group of tetras be good? Would they get along with the guppies? Also, what is everyone's choice for tetras?
Does anyone know what a jellybean tetra looks like (i cant find a pic online)? Is a harlequin a type of tetra?
What about rummeynose? (also, couldnt find a pic of them)

One last one... should i do all one type of tetra or will different types school together? Which ones are best for this? What would you do?

Here is a pic of some rummynose tetras http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=901 If you click on the actual picture another screen will pop up with a picture of a few schooling. I have these in my 10 gallon and love them!

As for the jellbean tetra I don't know anything about them but did find this link that included info and a small picture http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=5248

Harlequins are rasboras and there is some info about them on this page http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1065

Good luck!
