I have two one inch Red Fantail Goldfish in my temporary 10 gallon tank. I was wondering if there is anything that I can put in the tank with them. They are just 1-1.5 inches long not including the tail. I want a Plecostomus. I already had one and I think my Goldfish killed it. It died and it had a red fin on one side. Are there any suggestions. I can kinda overstock my tank because I have a Whisper filter for 20 gallon tanks on it. Please help!!!

balas, koi and plecos work fine

my pet shop says so long as you have good filteration you probably can 1 or 2 more fish but you must watch the chemestry of the water because gold fish release more waste maybe get an under gravel filter system as well with a small power head to break down waste a little faster. some people would say no to that, I,ve had my 2 fan tails in my 10 gallon for a month now their ok alone. add aqua-sol for safety measures it prevents deseases. I bought a new food for internal and external deseases its called " GEL-Tek "its good feeding them that too. My 2 guys had ich for a week i fed them this stuff they recovered in 3 days. you can check the net for more info its great stuff.

Pran quit giving bad advice, you're here to learn and you aren't doing very well at that.

You giving advice on fish is like Dr.Phil giving advice to Albert Pujlos on his batting stance.

fishieperson321..

Most will tell you that you shouldn't mix goldfish with other fish. Since they are fantails and can take a higher temp than other goldfish I think its ok, I have guppies, danios, otos, and skirt tetras with mine.

Hope you plan on upgrading the 10 gallon soon to a 55 or so with other fish, the goldfish alone would need 30 gallons or so.

plecos are tropical and need temps around 78-80. they also get about 18-24" long and need about 55 gallons all to themselves just because of the waste they produce.

however you could get a smaller species of pleco like a bristlenose, bushynose, or zebra that stay less than 12" long (i think none of the ones i listed get more than 8" but i could be wrong) and that would be fine with your two goldies in a 40-55 gallon tank. in a 55 you could add some other fish too like a school of whiteclouds or something.

Sorry fishieperson321 but you are going to have to get rid of your goldfish as the tank is too small. Try a small school of tetras or something like that. Plecos get way to big for your tank. Ask on this site(don't ask employees of your local fish store) on any fish you want to get before you buy them.

At least they are not in a Goldfish bowl!! I try to keep the water as clean as possible by doing weekly water changes. They are very healthy. What do you think about a Tetratec Power Filter 150? I know that fancy Goldfish are poor swimmers, but they are messy fish!! :dive2: Would it be too strong? I don't like Aqua Clear and I really don't like Penguin. My favorite filter is Whisper and these are made by the same company as Whisper. What do you think?
