undefinedI have a tank with about 20 convict cyclids. They are very healthy and are thriving. Problem is everytime I try to introduce another cyclid, mostly africans, they die!I've tried EVERYTHING!!! Theres no disease, waters checks ok, a pro takes care of my tanks and I and him are stumped! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :help:

Well what is the ph? water parameters? Size? You'd need quite a large tank for 20 convicts, that is definately probably WAY too many for your tank.
What kind of africans are they?

I'm sure that they are getting super stressed out by the hyper aggressive behavior that can be displayed by a tank full of thriving cons.......

If your tank is as full as mine got before I gave mine away I am sure that the convicts themselves are the cause of death. Viscious to no end, they will kill fish twice to three times thier size, especially if they are breeding. If you want africans, you should get rid of the cons and just go with africans. Most africans and new worlds don't dont go well together because of their differing behavior patterns and different water needs.

Yeah, if we're talking close to full-grown specimen's, nothing short of a 100G+ tank would allow them to be co-exist with other species.

undefinedThe convicts I have range in size from 3-5 inches. None of the africans that died had a mark on them. I've seen what convicts can do to other fish, but thats not the case here. They would be fine for awhile, then start swimming eratic, and I'd find them floating dead in the morning.no sign of disease ,nothing! The last 2 were OK for 10 days then died in 2 days.

First, your probably talking about Malawi Cichlids as the Africans. Completely incompatable with Convicts. What size tank is this? thats a lot of convicts for even a large tank. The malawis need a high pH and hard water, if your not giving them that then chances are your putting through pH shock. Also if you haven't checked your water params I would think you may have ammonia and or nitrites in the water, which would kill the new fish in a jiffy. You should really be doing more research before adding anything to a tank, convicts and malawis are about as far from compatable as you can get.

PH, Ammonia, and nitrates all checked out ok.I don't know if they were malawis. Africans with a long body in very bright colors, royal blue and yellow-orange.Discussed PH shock with guy who does my tanks and he says PH was ok. Must just be incompatible with convicts. what would be compatible to bring color into the tank?

Look, you need to give us numbers, not just tell us water params are "ok". Just because the guy that does your tank said it wasn't pH shock doesn't mean squat. You need to know the pH of the place your getting the fish from and then where you are. Sounds like you have malawis (well had), convicts are nasty little central american cichlids, just not a mix for water reasons and aggression issues. If that guy is telling you they will be fine together, its time you look for someone else to do your tank. He certainly is not a "pro".You still did not anwser our question about what size the tank is, also its not the convicts if the ones dying aren't all torn up, they certainly aren't dying from fear of the convicts.

My tank is a 30 gallon. water ph is 7.5 don't know what the stores ph was. I have the convicts because a guy gave me a male and female and had a fry. I'm down to about 15 2-5 inch convicts. I am thinking of getting rid of the c onvicts and going with the africans.anby suggestions for that? By the way thanks all for your time and advise.
