Hello all. Just a quick Qu. Ive been trying to get my head around tank sizes as I live in the metric system. I works out my tank size to 120 liters and did a conversion google to US liquid Gallons. its a 6 foot tank and i didnt consider it small. It worked out to 30 gallons. Which seems to be considered piddly in the world of aquatic central. no offence intended. what are your more common or preferable tank sizes in the states. and can you tell me dimensions. in feet is fine.i'll convert.

it does sound like a " how long is a piece of string?" question. Obviously most people would prefer a tank the size of a small room but that isnt very likely. I cant seem to picture a 60gallon or 100 gallon tank. how did you get it in the house??

Here is a link to a supplier of aquarium and reptile tanks. The page lists the common size tanks here in the States...

I have one of their 90 gallon longs, 48 inches, left to right as you look at the front, and 18 inches from front to back. It is 25 inches deep, top to bottom.

For the most part, as long as width stays under 30", it will fit through most doors over here so you can get it in the house, maybe a little tricky getting it up/down stairs and around tight corners/hallways.

My oldest son and I carried the 90 into the house very easily and I have a pretty standard home. A little tight through the foyer area, but managable.

Don't minimze the size of your tank. Most everybody that I know that has 75, 90, 125 and larger tanks also have several (and I mean several!) 10, 20 and 29 gal tanks. Some are for QT or fry grow out or breeding.

I'd say common sizes here are 10, 20, 29, 55, 75, 90 and 125 gallons.

You have a 120 liter/30 gal tank that is 6 foot long? Must be an unusual shape.

No doubt. My 55 is 4 ft long and 13 inches from front to back and 18 inches top to bottom, or close to it.

That tank must be 6 ft long, 10 inches top to bottom and 10 inches front to back.

thanks onepawnup. that is a nice easy conversion site. it was 76.36 US gallons for the tank but 70 US gallons to where I fill it to. That changes alot of my past perceptions of tank sizes. to get a 6ft tank to 30 gal it would have to be 6 inches across, lol. Thanks for your help.

No, it's much bigger than a 30g.

70x14x18=17,640 divided by 231=76.36 gallons

Personally I would love to have a tank that size, as I prefer floor space/klength over hieght, and I could fit that tank on a second floor (where I could'nt do that with the usual 6 foot long tanks).

EDIT: you posted while I was typing.
