Hi Everyone!

I just got a 125 gal tank for my Veil Tail Oscar. I hate to put him in that big thing alone. I am toying with adding a large Pleco from my othe tank, would he go after my pleco? I had a Blue Johanni in with him for a while, they seemed to get along great, until the Johanni died (not eaten).

I also have a 4in Oscar... (in another tank) Girl in pet store suggested feeding him some type of growth food to make him bigger and adding him. Not sure that will work but I want to do something before territory becomes an issue. The 125 is still empty.

I dont want anyone getting hurt or stressed and I dont want them to be lonely either.

any suggestions?

Oooorrrr.... What about putting the 4in Oscar in with my Silver dollars, they are between 4 and 6 inches. Would he bother them?

(I dont have any money left to get another Big fish)

Thanks so much!
T

I've never had any big issues with even my largest Oscar (15"). They are more gulpers than nippers. I think you'll be fine with any combination you mentioned. You may see some minor aggression while the pecking order is established and everyone stakes their claim...but nothing major.

The fish is not going to be affected from being "lonely", since adult oscars are not schooling fish. Oscars can be mixed with other cichlids too, but the problem would be the size, as it might not be willing to accept another fish. You could try an adult blue acara or some other medium size South American cichlid.

That oscar in your avatar is amazing, where did you get him? sorry off topic

I would maybe put him in with things that are peaceful, and big, like a normal Gourami 24"ers.

Thanks everyone!
I will try to put the little guy in first, give him time to adjust. I think I will try my Silver dollars and Rainbow Cichlid too before I add him.
I'll watch them and see what happens. I really hope they can get along. I bet the SD's would love a nice big tank.

Jtburf... Thanks, He really is amazing! I think he is part golden retriever! I found him on Petfinder.com They got him from a Flea Market in Quakertown PA. "Qmart" (for the locals) I've been there since and havent seen any like him there or anywhere else. Even the Veil Tails I see advertised online are nothing compared... unless they fill out when they mature, but I dont know and I dont know how old he is or if he is a he for that matter.
