Hey Everyone,

I have a 135G with an XP 3 filter. Right now I have one Tiger Oscar in the tank and Im not sure what else to add.

I was thinking a Jack Dempsey or maybe some GBR's, any thoughts?

Also with 135G how many mates do you think i could put in?

Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Tank mates for an established oscar, hmmm nothing rings a bell accept jaguar cichlid, maybe a smaller one. Otherwise the oscar is gunna eat em.

Sorry I wasnt that descriptive about the Oscar. The Oscar is only 2.5 inches long at the moment. Its a new thank that im stocking. The Oscar was placed in this tank about 3 days ago. Before that it was in a QT tank for a couple weeks.

I dont want to go with more oscars (unless I have to). Id like some variety.

The longer he has it to himself the more likely to defend with his little life, maybe some nice larger fish like giant gourami(yes I know the get lihe 24") or maybe even a royal pleco, OR a CLOWN KNIFE!!! i would defenatly get a clown knife.

i disagree with 3 oscars. oscars are very hard to keep in odd numbers cause usually the two stronger ones will gang up against the weaker one. 9/10 this will happen but you could get lucky. in that size tank you could do a oscar, female jack dempsey and a severum. that would look good

Thanks for the input so far everyone!

Im thinking about a blue dempsey, any thoughts?

GBR's should not be mixed with oscars. There's the chance they will eventually disappear.

Edit: Plecos will make fine tankmates but I daresay you need to do more water changes at any rate with the species you are picking. These are very heavy waste producers so check the water parameters regularly.

OK i'll give it a read through. Are BJD's known to be problematic? Or is this just some general info on them?

I'm only giving you a heads up with a site that can give you more insights before you consider it. I've read claims about these species being more problematic than Jack Dempseys, yes, but I've never kept these so I will not further comment on it.

Hope you've read the added message in my above post as well.:) While your oscar may still be young, it cannot be guaranteed that dwarf cichlids will last with them. Oscars grow quickly and will eventually try to consume any tankmates that will fit in their mouths. Furthermore, rams are sensitive to water conditions so no way would I consider keeping them with fish that produce too much wastes.
