Tap water filter?

I'm not familiar with the API filter, but a member of the CCA who kept/bred Tropheus (notoriously sensitive fish) simply ran his water through 2 carbon block filters. He said that took out most of the chlorine as well as any other impurities, but I'm not sure how well it would work on chloramine.

Before you get into a tap water filter. Consider the species that you have. If they are not very sensitive fish I probably would not spend the money for one. Over the years I come to realize that due to our love for our tanks we tend to sometime spend unnecessary money.

They're very effective as long as you run water through it slowly. They're not very cost effective as around here (moderately hard water) they're only good for 50 or 60 gals. An RO unit is much cheaper in the long run.
