What about the schooling factor? I probably only have room for one. Also, I have 4 damsels. Could they be harmed?

Yes they school, the more the better. Right now mine is schooling with 3 silver shark catfish. (it must have an identity issue by now) 
Damsels are pretty agressive.
I haven't had any experience with Damsels, so I don't know what the out come would be between these two fish.
The closest think that I have that would be close to a Damsel would be Orange and Green Chromides. That was no interaction between them.
Damsels aren't schooling fish they are territorial, so if you only got one target fish it would probably try to school with the Damsel and the Damsel would get mad and try to defend its territoy.
I think color (color patterns), shape, and size have a lot to do with how my target fish interacted with my other fish.

I have had mine for over a year and he is about 4 inches.
I got them when they were only an inch long.
