tattooed fish info?

Does the tattooing make the fish unhealthy? Will they introduce a disease into the tank? I don't want to bring home anything that could harm other fish. I did read you don't want me to buy them. I just don't believe in not giving a fish a better life. It's either I buy the fish or someone else. When I was in the store, I saw a woman with 5 kids who couldn't be older than 7 and two were in strollers. She was buying them. She told her kids,"if these die like all the others, we'll have to try a different kind." The oldest kid said,"maybe it needs a bigger bowl" and the mom said," they already have a 2 gallon." How many are all the others? 2 Gallons for 4 fish! I'd rather have the fish with me than with them. At least they'd have a life and room to swim. I didn't even think of the fact that valentines day is coming. If I don't buy them then someone else is. The owner of the store says she's been getting them in for a while but they sell out within three to four days. I think people should have to take tests before they are allowed to buy live creatures. Of course I also think people should have to take tests before they are allowed to have kids but neither are going to happen.

They use a syringe and literally poke the needle under the scales into the skin and inject the dye.The process used on the "tattooed" mollies is especially damaging due to the numerous pokes it takes to do the messy, garish, looks like a three year old drew it hearts and other designs. The lateral line scales and the lateral line itself basically get stabbed repeatedly which you can imagine cause stress and pain as well as permanent damage.DON'T BUY THESE FISH!!!

Thats horrible, I wasn't promoting them, just curious as to how they accomplished it as I have never seen tattooed fish before. I cannot see the fish living a long life at all after that procedure.

I really hope the aquatic community will stand together and not buy these fish.

actually those fish are laser tattooed. It never goes past the scales. If the fish loses the scales, it loses the tattoo. If it was like a regular tattoo those tiny sensitive fish would die of shock and then there wouldn't be a market for them. Needle tattoos hurt. I have several tattoos. A tiny fish wouldn't survive being stabbed with a needle hundreds of times.

:nilly: Not true,my dear.Do those designs look laser guided to you?I have witnessed the process and it is how I described.Do you really think the "artists" in the poor,third-world countries where a lot of this is done are investing in lasers to draw crude shapes on fish? ...

Hate to break it to ya but I witnessed what I'm talking about too. They are most favored in China as fortune fish or lucky charms, and believe me China is not a third world country. Unless they use different ways of tattooing for different fish. Plus they aren't hiring skilled artist to do it. If you can make out what it's supposed to be, it's good enough to sell.

You are thinking short term. If you buy it, you are simply funding more tattooed fish. If you buy them, that does not mean the kids will not buy them as well. What's worse, just the kids buying them, or both you and the kids buying them and having more being shipped in?
