Teach me how to ship plants and Inverts!

I've tried shipping multiple plants in the past, and have had disastorous results.Here are some questions I have:

1. Where do you get stryofoam insulation and heat packs?

2. How do you ship RCS?

3. How do you ship ramshorn snails?

4. Where do you get the supplies for # 2 + 3

5. How do you ship your plants?

6. Any other general advice?

1. Where do you get stryofoam insulation and heat packs?

I do what msjinkzd does.. You can buy 4x8 sheets of Styrofoam panels at Lowes for $10-20. From there you can cut what you need!

Heat packs are from shipping supply stores, online (U-LINE, http://www.kensfish.com/shippingsupplie.html, etc..), and some pet stores even sell them! Personally, I get them off of ebay.

2. How do you ship RCS?

In a sealed bag (with air space) and some moss for them to hang onto.

3. How do you ship ramshorn snails?

Can't answer this one.. I've never shipped these.

4. Where do you get the supplies for # 2 + 3

If you need fish bags, some LFS will let you take a dozen or so bags. Otherwise I've purchased standard bags as well as breather bags online. See Answer to #1 for the rest.

5. How do you ship your plants?

Wrapped very gently in wet paper towels and then in damp newspaper and then a ziplock bag.

6. Any other general advice?

Keep an eye on weather conditions and plan for the shortest transit possible. I ship Priority mail on Saturday for a Monday delivery.
