On Wednesday or Thursday I will be "adopting" all of the fish from our small camp pond. I'm not sure I want to take any of them to the LFS (don't want them to go to a bowl or be feeders) but I probably can't keep them all... I may give the 2-3" comet to our friends with a pond, but I'm not sure as of yet. Here is the stock:

1 small feeder comet (1")
1 rosy red minnow (1")
1 larger comet (donated by one of the campers) (2-3")
2 fancy (fantail or veiltail) goldies (2")

I'd love to build a pond for them but I don't know I can convince my parents...:grinyes: it's not totally out of the question, though (yet...lol). Anyway, here's how I can house them temporarily:

15g: tiny feeder comet and minnow (maybe 3" comet???)
??g rain barrel: fancy goldies

Now, keep in mind, these are TEMPORARY until they all find homes (either with me or with other people). I really don't know where to put the larger comet, any suggestions would be welcome on anything above. Nothing is set in stone so anything can be moved around. Thanks!

How long is "temporary"? Personally, I'd put the two fancies in the 15 gallon (a tight fit, but adequate for O2 - but you'll need to keep up with regular water changes) and the two comets and the rosy red in the rain barrel so long as temporary really means temporary and not "I'll fix it next month." Best to keep fancies and comets separate if there's not a lot of room, otherwise the comets will outcompete the fancies for food.
A forty gallon would be an okay permanent home for all five. 55g would be better.

55G won't be enough for all of them. You should plan for 15G per fancy and 20G per comet.

Get a very large rubbermaid storage container....

:iagree:

I bought a big Sterilite container to use as a QT for my big goldfish. I had to brace the top with a bungee strap, but I was able to hang a HOB filter on it. With daily water changes it has worked very well. The goldies are now in their tank and the tub is ready for the next batch of fish :D

Ok I think I should get the rubbermaid container. How big of a container should I get? I really want to build a pond but we still have to talk that over (it would be really helpful for my fish rescue... I should mention that, lol).

A 30 gallon tub is about $10, and a 50 is usually $20 or less.

I may be getting a free 55g, and I no that's not going to be enough but it's a start (I LOVE CRAIGSLIST!! lol) or (Also from craigslist) building a pond... I found a pond liner, pump, watefall, tubing, rocks, etc. for $80... we'll see. I'm going to start out with the bins though probably :) LOL at "Bishypoo", Lup.
