A friend just gave me a large can of tetra flake. It has never been opened as he switched to another type of food some time ago. There is no expiration date on the can although there are some numbers on the bottom of the can I take to be an expiration code. Anyone know how to decipher this code?
:1zhelp:

Could you type them out? It may be based on the Julian Calendar but I wouldn't be sure without seeing them.

Otherwise, you can always email or call the toll-free number on the container and ask the company to decipher the numbers for you.

Hmmm....I'm stumped. If it was according to the Julian Calendar, the 323 would mean November 18th. But I was reading online (after your post) and I read that as long as the container is not opened and sealed, it should be okay and fresh. Do you know roughly how old this container is?

And if you would like to, Tetramin's (the company) toll-free number is 1-800-423-6458. You can call them from 7 am - 9 pm EDT. :)

It may be a year or two old. Since the foil seal has never been broken I assume it is still safe to use but I may call tetra tomorrow to see if they could help me. At 7 oz, it's enough flake to feed my fish for a long time. Would seem like a waste to throw it out.

Oh, well if it's been only one or two years, it should definitely be okay. I thought it might be 5+ years old. :) But just to be on the safe side, I would call Tetramin tomorrow if you have the time. I too, would think it was a waste just to throw out. Best of luck to you. :)

What difference does it make the food is good as long as it did not get wet.
