tetra schooling

do tetras only school with their own species, or will , say, 2 emperors join in the school with 5 neons if those are the only tetras in the tank. i have 4 neon tetras and want to get two or three more tetras, but want to know if i should stick with neon, or if i can venture into another species.

typically i believe they only really school with like species, that being said, my neons school with my cardinals but they look very similar.

Our Harlequins and Penguins swim together, i think there trying to form a gang or something..........

Depends. Usually with their own species or with a similar looking one

emperors and neons wont school together. emperor look best in a large school because their colors will be more vibrant.
