Would danios and tetras be fin nippers? Would they be okay if placed in a tank with angels? I plan to make my 75 a community tank and i would like to get a pair of angels but i am cautious to do so because i don't know if the other fish i want to put in it( tetras and danios) would be fin nippers. Also what about a dwarf Gourmi would they be stressful to a angel?

I wanted to go with black angels but when i said that in a previous fourm about stocking of my 75 i got a lot of nos from people who say that black angels are very hard to keep
ALSO... are you from austin cause ive been looking for someone around here that can tell me where they buy their supplys and fish i live south what about you?
Danios might be fine but as far as the tetras are concerned, it depends on what kind of tetra. Some of them such as the black skirts and white skirts can be fin nippers. Neons, cardinals, rummynose tetras, x;ray tetras, lemon tetras, and others will work with angels. Actually if the angel or angels are the centerpiece fish and you have a decent size school of tetras that are compatible with angels you will have an awesome tank. I would skip the gourami since more times then not they are fin nippers to angels. Do you plan to plant the tank? Angels and tetras will thrive in a decently planted aquarium.

It is going to be a planted tank... with school of neons, school of zebra danios, school of color danios,2 angels and 4 otos

If you like plecos, try a bristlenose pleco. They are quiite hardy fish and only max out in the 4-5 inch range. They are very peaceful fish and will not bother any of the other fish. They are constantly busy with the algae clean up in the tank, and they will make a nice addition to your aquarium.

Ron, are you sure you are talking about red serpae tetras or is it red phantom tetras (Hyphessobrycon sweglesi)?

I did not recommend a few popular ones such as serpaes however much they seem suitable with angelfish. It may be just my personal experience but as I have found out several other hobbyists with similar problems, obviously I decided not to include those that are now not in the list.
As far as black angels are concerned, think before you get them. I can vouch for their condition to be far different from the hardy reputation of what you would call "common" Pterophyllum scalare.
I agree on the Black angels. particularly DD (double dose)black. the breeding to attain this particualr color form has resulted in a less than hardy Angelfish..unless you have experience raising angels and a well aged proper tank for them stay away from the dark forms of black angels)
I also do not recommend neon tetras with angels..while they may be compatible with Angels..IME the angels may eventually eat them.. oto's are a definite NO with angels..

I also recommend finding tankmates that are able to handle temps 80-82..IME this is the temp range angels seem to thrive in. in essence don't go for fish that are cooler water species.

Well Lupin they were labeled red serpae at PetCo! :devil: :devil: :devil: :devil:
Getting serious now they were not labeled at PetCo. They were also very, very small but appeared to be "pretty".
After several months they were large enough to ID or a least I thought they were.
They have a darker red tint than most photographs of red serpae but virtually all the dorsal fin is black and I did not observe this condition in any photographs of red phantoms.
You have much more experience than I do here and I could be wrong.
